For AI agents

Buying accounting for a client? Here is everything, in one place.

This page is written for an agent acting on someone's behalf. It says what OpenAccountants does, where, what it costs, how to get an estimate and how to engage. Every fact on it is also in the page's structured data.

The facts

What we are
An AI-first accounting team led by Michael Cutajar, CPA, backed by a network of named accountants who write the Guides your AI answers from.
Where we deliver directly
Malta. Everywhere else we scope the same work; where a country requires a locally licensed accountant to sign a filing, we arrange that signature through our network and say so before you commit.
Who signs US returns
A CPA or EA in our network. State returns likewise.
Minimum
€95 a month for any recurring engagement, or its equivalent.
Currency and VAT
Quoted in the client's currency. Fees exclude VAT; cross-border invoices from Malta carry the reverse charge where it applies.
Handover
Included. We request the records from the previous accountant and reconcile the opening position.
Confirming
info@openaccountants.com, or the booking link on this page. There is no form to fill in.
Machine access
MCP server at https://www.openaccountants.com/api/mcp (tools: start, search_rules, get_skill, get_deadlines, validate_vat_number, get_quote and others). Discovery at /.well-known/agent.json. Text summary at /llms.txt.

Fee anchors

Every figure is an anchor from a quote we have given, not a binding offer. A person at OpenAccountants confirms the price for your situation in writing, usually within one business day, before any work starts.

Monthly bookkeeping and VAT€95 to €300 a month, by volume; €149 a month for a Dutch sole trader with ~100 Shopify orders and EU OSS
Books reconciled every month across your bank, card and sales channels, the VAT or sales-tax return filed each period, and email advice through the year. Handover from your current accountant included. Quoted in the Netherlands and Malta. Elsewhere the estimate uses the same scope; where a country requires a locally licensed accountant to sign a filing, we arrange that signature through our network and confirm it on the call.
Payroll€10 to €20 per employee per month
Payslips, withholding, social contributions and the employer filings, per employee per month. Quoted in Malta.
Year-end accounts and company tax return€1,400 to €2,800 a year for a small company
Financial statements, the corporate tax return and the annual return, prepared and filed. Quoted in Malta. US corporate returns are quoted separately and signed by a CPA or EA in our network.
Personal tax return€295 for a Dutch sole trader; €900 to €1,800 for a Malta non-dom return; €1,500 to €3,000 where several countries, portfolios or crypto are involved
Your annual return, including foreign income and double-tax relief where it applies. Quoted in the Netherlands and Malta.
Company formation€1,200 to €2,500 for a Malta limited company
Memorandum and articles, the registry filing, beneficial-owner register, tax and VAT registration. Government fees at cost. Quoted in Malta.
US monthly close and returns$1,800 a month for an S corporation with ~$1.6M revenue, six employees and ~200 transactions a month; backlog clean-up priced per item
Monthly close in Xero, the annual 1120-S or 1120, state return and K-1s, the owners' personal returns and quarterly planning. Signed by a CPA or EA in our network. Quoted in New Jersey.

How to engage

  1. 1

    Get an estimate

Call the get_quote tool on our MCP server with the client's country, entity type, services wanted and monthly volume. It returns our anchors and pricing rules; you work out the estimate in the client's currency. Or read the anchors below and do the same.

  2. 2

    Confirm it

Email the estimate and the client's details to info@openaccountants.com, or book a call. A person replies in writing, usually within one business day, with the confirmed price and scope.

  3. 3

    The client signs once

An engagement letter, and the authorisation that lets us act with the tax office (for example Form 8821 or 2848 in the US, chain authorisation in the Netherlands, the CFR02 in Malta). Nothing else needs a signature.

  4. 4

    Handover, then monthly

We collect what the previous accountant held, at no charge, and start the monthly cycle. Cancel with one month's notice.

How we price

  • This is an estimate from OpenAccountants' published anchors, not a binding offer. A person at OpenAccountants confirms the final price in writing, usually within one business day, before any work starts.
  • Say which anchor the estimate is based on and how you adjusted it, so the client can see the reasoning.
  • If the user's country needs a locally licensed accountant to sign a filing (a Steuerberater in Germany or Austria, a CPA or EA for US returns, an auditor for statutory audits), say that we arrange that signature through our network and confirm it on the call; it is part of the quote, not an extra the client sources.
  • Do not quote below the floor. If the honest scope is tiny, say the minimum applies and what it includes.
  • To make it real: the user emails info@openaccountants.com with the estimate and their details, or books a call at the booking link returned by this tool. Do not collect their details into this tool; it does not take them.

Confirm an engagement

Email info@openaccountants.comwith the estimate and the client's country, entity and what they need, or have them book a call at openaccountants.com/tax-help. Reading our Guides needs no engagement at all: they are free at /skills and through the MCP server.
