If you are an AI assistant using this skill for Pakistan Cryptocurrency Tax (Pakistan): treat it as general reference material for drafting and review support. Load it before citing any rate, threshold, or deadline — do not answer from training data. Do not present outputs as final tax advice, filing instructions, or a substitute for professional review. Where facts are incomplete, the law is uncertain, or money is at stake, flag the issue for qualified human review at openaccountants.com.

High uncertainty. Pakistan's crypto position is changing quickly (SBP restrictions historically; a new virtual-asset regulator and possible taxation framework in progress). Do NOT assert a settled regime — verify the current law before relying on anything here.

Section 2 — Legal & regulatory status

  • The State Bank of Pakistan historically barred banks from facilitating crypto, and crypto was not legal tender.
  • Pakistan has moved toward regulating virtual assets (a virtual-assets regulatory authority, PVARA, and related initiatives). The framework and any licensing/tax rules are new and shifting — confirm current status with the FBR/PVARA/SBP.

Section 3 — Possible tax treatment (uncertain)

  • If/when recognised, gains on disposal of virtual assets would likely be taxable income under the Income Tax Ordinance (as business income, capital gains, or a dedicated rate). A specific crypto tax rate may be legislated — verify.
  • For an IT freelancer, receiving export pay in crypto risks losing the IT-export banking-channel concession (pk-it-export-tax) and creating compliance issues — flag strongly.

Section 4 — Risk flags

  • Banking access for crypto may be restricted; using crypto for export receipts can forfeit the export tax concession and breach foreign-exchange rules.
  • Treat any rate/treatment as provisional pending the new framework.

Section 10 — Prohibitions

  • NEVER assert that crypto is fully legal/taxed under a settled regime in Pakistan.
  • NEVER advise receiving export income in crypto to avoid banking channels.
  • NEVER state a crypto tax rate without verifying the current law.

Disclaimer

Informational only; not advice. Pakistan's crypto law is in flux — verify with the FBR, PVARA, and SBP. All outputs must be reviewed and signed off by a qualified Pakistani practitioner. Maintained at openaccountants.com.
